Cell Phone Buying Guide
Pick a service provider

Buying a cell phone is more than a matter of choosing a handset--you also have to pick a service provider, or carrier, as well. Each carrier in the U.S. offers a different selection of technologies and services, so it's important to think about your needs when making a choice. For that reason, selecting a carrier should be the first step in the buying process at Wirefly Mobile

Protect Your Wireless Network From Hackers
Tales From The Cryptographer

It would send chills down your spine to learn how easy it is for others to connect to your Wi-Fi network and put your computers under their spell. If your computer has been acting funny lately, working fine at times while slowing to a crawl at others, it may have crossed over to the dark side and could be spamming your friends and scamming your parents.

A home network brings many benefits, but it can also expose new evils. Both your Internet connection and your wireless router are potential points of entry for the bad guys. Here are a few tips that will keep hackers and
freeloaders at bay. read more...

Brightness or black level: This adjusts how dark the black sections of the picture appear. To set it, connect your DVD player using the highest quality input available. Insert a wide-screen DVD (black bars on the top and bottom, also called letterbox bars). Turn up the control all the way, then decrease it until the letterbox bars begin to appear black, as opposed to dark gray. If you notice a loss of shadow detail--for example, when people's eyes disappear into the depths under their brows--then you've set brightness too low.  read more...
Voice over IP (VOIP) Buying Guide

Voice over IP is exactly what its name suggests. It is voice communication that is transmitted over an Internet Protocol (IP) service.
VoIP is seen as a disruptive technology. For a century, people have been happy to use the plain old telephone system (POTS) to make calls. When POTS calls are made, a circuit opens between the two callers. No matter how long they speak, or whether there are quiet periods in the conversation, that circuit remains open between the caller and receiver. Importantly, the further a caller is from a receiver... read more
